We're Bringing Green to the Mainstream!
Our green building program was launched in 2006 with the primary purpose of promoting building techniques and materials that produce homes which consume less energy and other resources, facilitate better indoor air quality, and provide a more durable product requiring less maintenance. Our certification program is based on the Model Green Home Building Guidelines developed by the National Association of Home Builders. We operate a certification program that contains three levels: bronze, silver, and gold. We are currently certifying homes in the Triangle at the rate of about 100 per year. A builder can obtain a certificate for a home by enrolling the project in our program, completing a scoresheet to show that sufficient goals are being met in each of the program areas, and (after the home is completed) submitting a complete documentation package that is reviewed by a third-party verifier under contract with our program. A certificate is issued after the third-party review has been completed. Click here to learn about the homes that have been enrolled and certified in our program. Want to enter a home in our certification program? Click here to find out more or call Leigh Scott, Director of Green Building Programs, at 919-493-8899.
