NAHBGreen is a package of green building guidance, rating systems and certification, and educational tools for helping builders adopt green building techniques across the country. The Green Home Builders of the Triangle (GHBT) is recognized by the National Association of Home Builders as an ‘Affiliated Program’ that has adopted a green building rating system that is equivalent to or higher than the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines Bronze Level, and has a credible, third-party verification program. The GHBT supports NAHB educational and promotional efforts and recognizes the National Green Building Certification  offered by NAHBGreen.  The NAHB does not guarantee the products or services offered by its Affiliated Programs.  "NAHB National Green Building Program" is a trademark owned by the NAHB and is used by permission, all rights reserved.

We're Bringing Green to the Mainstream!

Our green building program was launched in 2006 with the primary purpose of promoting building techniques and materials that produce homes which consume less energy and other resources, facilitate better indoor air quality, and provide a more durable product requiring less maintenance.  Our certification program is based on the Model Green Home Building Guidelines developed by the National Association of Home Builders.  Click here to learn more about the GHBT members and leadership team.  If you are an industry professional interested in green building, please join us!  Click here for the program application.

We operate a certification program that contains three levels:  bronze, silver, and gold.  We are currently certifying homes in the Triangle at the rate of about 100 per year.  A builder can obtain a certificate for a home by enrolling the project in our program, completing a scoresheet to show that sufficient goals are being met in each of the program areas, and (after the home is completed) submitting a complete documentation package that is reviewed by a third-party verifier under contract with our program.  A certificate is issued after the third-party review has been completed. Click here to learn about the homes that have been enrolled and certified in our program.  Want to enter a home in our certification program?  Click here to find out more or call Leigh Scott, Director of Green Building Programs, at 919-493-8899.

If you're eager to learn more about green building, sign up now for the two-day Green Building for Building Professionals class, being taught by Michael Chandler on August 31 and September 1 in Chapel Hill.  Make your reservation soon, because space is limited.  Click here for the registration form.
