The Women's Council was chartered as an affiliate organization of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in 1955.  The Women's Council began as an "auxiliary" organization supporting the work of HBAs.  With changes in workforce involvement by women, the mission changed and it took on the role of promoting, enhancing, and supporting home building and women in the home building industry.  It has grown to represent nearly 3,500 women who are actively involved in all aspects of the building industry -- as owners, marketing experts, subcontractors, interior designers, real estate and banking professionals. 

Reflecting the change in mission, a new name was approved by the NAHB Women’s Council Board of Trustees at the 2009 NAHB Spring Board meeting - the Board approved changing the name to  NAHB Professional Women in Building Council (PWBC).  Next step is for approval by the NAHB Board of Directors.  The change will be voted on at NAHB’s Fall Board meeting on October 3^rd. At the North Carolina level, the Council had that name several years earlier and is the NC Professional Women in Building.

A local PWB Council was formed in 2007.  Helping to accomplish the goal of providing networking and leadership opportunities for women, the PWB Council will focuses on industry related educational programs in local schools, scholarship fundraising, and BUILD-PAC fundraising.
