Why Consider a High Performance Home?

According to the U.S. Census, the average household pays $2,500 in energy costs every year, a higher annual cost than either property tax or insurance. And that energy use makes up 20% of the country’s energy usage. This results in a corresponding amount of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Buying a green home could be one of the best things you do for the planet. Meanwhile, you benefit from many of the benefits of a green home – improved health, comfort, lower costs over the long term.

A green certified home economizes materials and uses recycled and reused materials. Less waste is a good thing!

The larger a home, the larger the footprint. Green homes are designed to do more with less.

Green homes are designed to last longer and require less renovation.

Green homes use low- or zero- VOC paints and building materials that have little or no formaldehyde.

Green homes tend to have better insulation and thus minimize drafts.

Triple-paned windows and increased insulation do a better job of keeping the home insulated from sounds outside.

Green homes qualify for a number of different incentives. Check with your local municipalities.

Green homes have renewable energy sources (such as solar) that will produce more energy savings than ever before.

Everyone likes to save money on utility bills, making green homes a wise investment. Studies show that homes certified with ENERGY STAR or LEED designations sold for 30% more than conventionally built homes.
